Difficulty Level: Beginner
If you’re crazy like us, you already had your Halloween decorations out in September. Why not take it a step further and make a gory cake that will probably still not impress your mother-in-law?
If you can make a cake out of boxed cake mix, and throw together a basic buttercream frosting, you can probably make this cake. It’s just not that hard to do. Sure, it might not look exactly like ours, because our creative director who decorates cakes all the time made it, but she said it’s an easy one, and we trust her. We’ve even included a video to convince you further.

Preliminary Steps
Mix vanilla cake batter of choice with red food coloring gel for a medium red color. Divide batter between three greased and floured 6-inch pans and bake according to instructions. Once cakes are baked and cooled, horizontally cut the top of each layer so it’s completely flat.
Prepare vanilla faux swiss meringue buttercream recipe (Link to video). Prepare white chocolate ganache frosting with red food coloring gel to achieve a blood-red color. Transfer ganache to a plastic squeeze bottle.
Decoration
1. Using a cake corer, cut a donut hole completely through the center of each layer
2. Place the first layer on your serving plate*
*NOTE: This is a filled cake and cannot be transferred to a new base once decorated. Make sure to decorate the cake on a cake round, or on the same plate you’ll be using to serve.
3. Using an offset spatula, form a smooth layer of buttercream on top of the first vanilla cake layer, about ½ inch thick.
4. Spoon strawberry jam mixture into the center cutout to fill completely
5. Add second vanilla cake layer, frost top with buttercream and fill with more jam mixture.
6. Stack the third vanilla cake layer and fill with jam mixture before frosting the top.
7. Frost the crumb coat with buttercream, taking care to completely cover the strawberry jam center. Refrigerate cake for 10 minutes to set the crumb coat
8. Remove from refrigerator and apply final layer of vanilla buttercream frosting, taking care to create a smooth, even coating without any air pockets
9. Squeeze red-dyed white chocolate ganache frosting over the top of the cake, letting it drip over the sides to create a bloody effect
10. Sprinkle Cruella Caviar Fancy Sprinkles on the top of the cake
11. Insert large plastic knife into the cake’s center
Enjoy your bloody cake, you freaks!
